Summer is quickly coming to an end, and so is camping season. You've just been on your last camping trip of the year and you're looking for new Camping Gift Ideas for next year's vacations. Like any good camper, you've begun planning next year's trip in your head. Maybe it's a family vacation or even a school vacation, but chances are it will be one worth remembering. No matter what you decide on doing, one thing is for certain, your trip can't go wrong if you have the right equipment and supplies to back you up.
Here I'll discuss some great Camping Gift Ideas that everyone at the camp will enjoy receiving; there are many great choices, but when they are broken down by activity they make it much easier to narrow down your search. Moreover, HighlyUnique wants to help you to plan a camping trip for everyone in your family as well. When it comes to family camping trips, it's important to plan so you can make sure your camping trip is a success. We all love the great outdoors, but planning a family camping trip isn't always easy.
How To Plan Camping Trips For Everyone In Your Family?
Camping is an activity where you leave your luxurious home and go outdoors to sleep in a tent with your family or friends. It lets you spend time outside and make valuable memories. When I plan camping trips, I make sure it's perfect for every member of my family. Here are some planning tips to help me do that.
Select the Right Site
The spot you choose will make or break your family's camping trip. Your kids (or your partner) may not be as excited as you about trekking to a secluded spot and camping. Your camping party's abilities and interests should guide campsite selection.
If you have beginner campers, choose a site in a state or national park. If you don't mind spending all your time at the campsite, remote may be better. If your family likes to camp at night but spends the day touring towns or hiking, choose a campground near your activity destination. Choose a campground with running water and flush toilets if your family doesn't like camping.
Make a Reservation
If you're not camping near a trail, book early. Most state and national parks take reservations a year in advance. Established campgrounds allow internet reservations. ReserveAmerica handles online and phone reservations for national and state parks. Some are first-come, first-served without reservations. If so, arrive early to find a suitable campsite.
Come Prepared
The best predictor of family camping success is planning. “Be Prepared” is a camping mantra. The basic camping kit includes the following:
-
- Well-stocked first aid kit
- Rainfly and ground cloth tent
- Temperature-rated sleeping bags
- Mattresses, cots, foam pads
- Everyone needs lightweight ponchos
- Flashlights
- Chargers
- Stove, fuel
- Lantern fuel
- Cookset with can openers
- Transporters
- Waterproofing
- Sunscreen
- Bug-proof coole
Bringing storage boxes makes storing and accessing camping items easier. Our family has three pre-labeled bins for camping gear, cooking equipment, and food. They fit in the trunk and under a picnic table at the campsite. When you're away, they keep wildlife out of your stuff.
Stay Dry
Wetness wrecks a family camping excursion. Camping often seems to guarantee rain. Rain gear, waterproof shoes, a dry tent, and a sleeping bag will keep you dry.
-
- Always put a tarp under your tent, folded to fit. If the tarp hangs over the tent edge, it will funnel rainwater beneath the floor.
- Make sure your tent's seams are sealed. Most outdoor or sporting goods retailers sell seam sealer, which keeps water out.
- Keep sleeping bags in the tent's middle, away from the walls. Even without rain, tent condensation can dampen sleeping bags at night. Put waterproof bags along the tent's walls and sleeping bags in the middle.
- If it looks like rain, raise the tent's rainfly. Leave a few upper windows unzipped to reduce condensation.
Plan to Eat Well
Unhappy campers are hungry. After years of monthly Boy Scout overnight camps, I agree. Pack kid-friendly foods. Bring crackers, granola bars, gummy bears, carrots, and celery sticks. Cook with them over a camp stove, fire, or dutch oven. Water bottles, canteens, and water jugs will keep the family hydrated.
Structure Responsibilities
Everyone will enjoy camping more if everyone pitches in. At scout camps, we construct a daily “job roster” for everyone. Some cook, clean, gather firewood, and haul water. Family members can divide and conquer campout tasks to ensure everyone does their part.
Don't Over Plan
Dads sometimes over-plan a camping excursion. If you want a good time, resist. Allow unstructured play time. Let your kids play.
Ponder About Pets
We've camped with the dog. But make sure they're authorized where you want to go. Our golden retriever was welcome at the campground but not at the lake where we went canoeing. One parent had to stay at the campground with the dog, so we missed family time.
A little forethought can make the difference between a fun camping trip and a “poor time was had by everyone” weekend. Prepare, then have fun.
